Power firm receives global recognition for its procurement services

Wednesday, August 02, 2017

The Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) has awarded Britain’s largest electricity distributor, UK Power Networks, with the globally-recognised CIPS Corporate Certification Standard, after delivering purchasing policies, processes and procedures that meet top professional procurement standards.
UK Power Networks, which owns and operates the electricity networks in London, the East and South East, has received the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) Corporate Certification Standard. The certification demonstrates an organisation delivers world-class procurement in terms of its level of influence, control, and involvement with partners, suppliers and internal colleagues.
Nigel Coatsworth, head of procurement compliance at UK Power Networks, said: “We are delighted to have received this recognition from CIPS and it’s a great accolade for the team.
“However, we are not resting on our laurels as we are now pushing to achieve the advanced accreditation by the end of the year.”
Duncan Brock, Director of Customer Relations, CIPS said: “Gaining the CIPS Corporate Certification Standard is an excellent achievement for UK Power Networks; demonstrating the organisations commitment to procurement.
Engaging with this accreditation programme has laid a strong foundation that will allow flexibility and adaptability to the internal and external forces that will be applied to them in the future years. The UK Power Networks procurement team should be very proud of themselves.”
The certificate was received by Nirmal Kotecha, Director of Capital Programme and Procurement and presented by Duncan Brock, CIPS Director of Customer Relations.

About UK Power Networks

UK Power Networks is the country’s biggest electricity distributor, making sure that the lights stay on for more than eight million homes and businesses across London, the South East and the East of England.

Network operators are not the same as energy suppliers; network operators manage local power lines and substations, while energy suppliers sell the electricity that runs through the power lines.

UK Power Networks is the first electricity distributor to be named in the Sunday Times’ Top 30 Best Companies to Work For, and made industry history by becoming first company to win Utility of the Year two years running (2015 and 2016, also 2012).

The company invests more than £500 million in its electricity networks every year, offers extra help to vulnerable customers at times of need, and is undertaking trials to ensure that electricity networks support the transition to a low carbon future. It also moves cables and connects new electricity supplies. If you have a power cut ring 105, see www.ukpowernetworks.co.uk or tweet us @UKPNnews
